Use the selection tree

  • Expand only the branches needed; large trees load children as you open them.
  • All selects the top-level source-model branches and clears exclusions. Clear removes the active selection.
  • Selecting a parent includes its descendants. An excluded branch remains excluded even when its parent is selected.
  • For Current selection and saved/search sets, a zero effective count blocks the export.
  • Recheck the count after changing the Navisworks model, set membership or source exclusions.

Combine scope filters

Source-model exclusions, hidden-item policy, geometry-only and clash-proxy filtering layer over the chosen scope. The final count in Review is the result of those combined decisions, not only the tree selection.

  • Keep Include hidden items off for a visibility-driven coordination issue, but turn it on when hidden authoring elements remain contractually required.
  • Use Only items with geometry for mesh-oriented targets. Do not use it when property-only objects, spaces or systems matter.
  • Exclude clash-only proxies only after confirming the project naming convention cannot match legitimate objects by accident.
  • With separate-per-model output, all files share one federation reference so they remain aligned when imported together.

Section planes and caps

Current section reads the active Navisworks section planes and applies exact native clipping. Choose Cap when cut faces should be closed, or Do not cap when open cuts better communicate the source geometry.

Verify the final scope

  1. Review the count

Compare the effective object or branch count with the expected project subset.

  2. Review exclusions

Confirm every omitted source, hidden policy and geometry filter is intentional.

  3. Run checks-only or a sample

For a new rule or section, validate the scope before replacing a deliverable.

  4. Record the choice

Keep the report and resolved profile with the output so another coordinator can reproduce it.
